Fughu - Absence review on Muzik Reviews

Opera, metal, symphony, tango… When one hears of all these genres, they most likely think of completely different sounds, with audiences and fans very different from one another. However, Argentinean quintet Fughu manages to successfully fuse these sounds together, forming an interesting progressive rock sound that brings a little bit of everything to the table.

Hollow Branches - Okanagana Waves review on DPRP

Hollow Branches have made an album that sometimes you think you’ve got a handle on, but at other times it defies description, it simply “is”. Listing influences as divergent as Sigur Ros, David Sylvian (which I can see) and Van Der Graaf Generator (which I can’t) you might conclude that this is a difficult album to define for the uninitiated, and you’d be right. If pushed I suppose it comes under that handy catch-all “post-rock”.

Daymoon - All Tomorrows review on DPRP

Amongst all the strange tracks on All Tomorrows, this has to be the strangest. Subtitled 'A Theatre Play' to heighten the pretentiousness, we are treated to a torrent of unrelated, and often cringeworthy musical themes. My head fell into my hands at the ignominious utterance of 'Sorry, I didn't mean it,' halfway through the track. In a sepulchral way, I can almost see what Lessing was trying to achieve, as there are parts of this track that aspire to be like And You And I, although the attempt was utterly futile. I was horrified to find that this was actually the first song composed for the album, and has been knocking around since 2004!

Bitter Resolve - Bows And Arrows Against The Lightning

Most of the album, in fact, has lots of fuzz and distortion over everything, giving a low–budget feel to it, with vocals high above everything saying a few words at a time, but no more. It’s a dense machine chugging along at its own pace, probably under the influence. But it works. If you’re into psychedelic metal, give this one a listen.
