Re: Obligatory Italian Prog Thread

Ah, I did a search and found out it's actually an older album. From 2008, recorded in 1998.
Aldo is a solo artist now, but playing Orme music....:

AD GLORIAM CONCERT

The debut concert of this tour, presenting original songs from the first incarnation of “Le Orme” down to a parade of the band’s hits in the seventies, interspersed with a salute to the seminal jam forefathers “Cream”.
Aldo will be accompanied by Alex Mizzan on keys, Giorgio Mantovan on guitars and Carlo Maria Formenton on drums.

Hopefully , the current Orme will release some great new music.

Re: Obligatory Italian Prog Thread

I would love some new music from Le Orme, since PFM has been churning out some great stuff there's no reason they shouldn't tongue Banco too! They're the worst of the three! At least Le Orme put out something in '04.

Also Jorge, your opinion is wrong. The best RPI band is clearly Latte e Miele.

Re: Obligatory Italian Prog Thread

actually if we do an album per album rate summed up divided by the number of albums, i think Le Orme would have the better final score, PFM released too many bs in the 80's (imo) same for banco...

Re: Obligatory Italian Prog Thread

Same with Le Orme... PFM and Banco just released more. Anyway I think Banco and PFM have more good albums than Le Orme do.

After counting:

Banco: 7
PFM: 7 1/2
Le Orme: 7

AND PFM SQUEAKS AHEAD! I give 1/4 of a point for both Jet Lag and Chocolate Kings, because while they are good albums, the vocals are terrible.

No way! Lanzetti has a great voice! It's just an acquired taste. Listen to Acqua Fragile, he's great there.

Latte e Miele the best RPI? Are you sure? While I like all four* albums, I wouldn't say they were the best. Some of their stuff is pretty naive. Nice, but not the best IMO.
The "best" is based on personal taste obviously.
One of my alltime favorite RPI albums is I Giganti's Terra in Bocca. Together with Zarathustra, Melos and YS
And if I'm in a "mello" (as in 'tron wink) mood, I play Celeste or Dallamano.
Locanda Delle Fate is very sophisticated and when I need some classical influences I turn to PFM or QVL.
Banco fits in very nicely as does Metamorphosi.

* including the English version of Papillon, haven't heard the live stuff..

Lets just discuss one album at the time.
Lets start with a controversial one: Le Orme ~ In Concerto

Re: Obligatory Italian Prog Thread

Interestingly, I like Latte e Miele because it seems more classically-influenced than any other RPI band, and that's saying something! On the other hand, I've tended to find Zarathustra, Locanda Delle Fate, and Il Baletto Di Bronzo a bit overrated, though still enjoyable.

I actually started out liking Lanzetti's voice, but much like Peter Gabriel's, the man he's doing his best to copy, I grew to hate it.

My favorite RPI album is probably Storia Di Un Minuto by you know who, which seems a bit cliche but it's a hard choice.

(I haven't listened to Celeste, Dallamano, I Giganti, or Cervello)

I didn't know that Orme album was controversial, I find it pretty good.

Re: Obligatory Italian Prog Thread

lets see:

PFM
2.19    I Quelli (pre PFM):
4.40    Storia Di Un Minuto
4.52    Per Un Amico

2.06    Come Ti Va in Riva alla Città
1.88    PFM? PFM!
2.05    Miss Baker
2.78    Ulisse
3.28    Serendipity
3.68    Dracula Opera Rock
4.21    Stati Di Immaginazione
2.94    A.D. 2010 - La buona novella

59.17/18 = 3.29 out of five ( 6.57 out of 10 if you like)

Banco
4.35    Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso
4.46    Darwin!
4.47    Io Sono Nato Libero
4.16    Banco (1975)
3.27    Garofano Rosso
4.11    Come in un'ultima cena
3.08    As In A Last Supper
3.85    ...Di Terra
3.92    Canto di primavera
1.50    Urgentissimo
2.36    Buone Notizie
2.07    Banco (1983)
1.35    ...E Via
2.54    Donna Plautilla
2.45    Non Mettere Le Dita Nel Naso
3.44    Darwin (1991 version)
4.22    Da Qui Messere Si Domina La ValleBanco 13
2.25    Banco 13
3.00    Il Banco Presenta Francesco Di Giacomo

60.85/19 = 3.20 out of five ( 6.41 out of 10 if you like)

btw...

3.83    Buon Vecchio Charlie

3.83/1 = 3.83 out of five, BVC won!

now srsly i expected banco to have better average, perhaps without all the remakes and translations

rates from PA.
